Welcome to Drag City News
Here's a breif history of what Drag City News was and is now. It was a newspaper started back in 1976 by then Farmington Dragway track operators Jim Turner and Jerry Joyce to PROMOTE racing at Farmington, but to also give their racers extra exposure to the world. Enter Norman Drouilard, Sr, with out his connections in the newspaper printing world, there wouldn't have been a DCN. Again it featured Race Results, Up coming events and features on racers ...but most importantly it had PICTURES. Later I brought it back to life PROMOTING the Carolina Coalition. Like everything else in this world it has gone to computers. There quicker to update and don't cost as much to do. BUT there is still nothing like seeing pictures in news print. What I hope to do here is bring back a little of that past and mix it with todays modern blog.
I want to go back it time, but not get stuck there. I want to keep a posting on local track races, race results and it's racers. Bascicly have a daily newspaper for anyone interested in the world of drag racing.
Thanks,
Mark Joyce

Remember November
I remember November not for the change of the weather, but because I lost the greatest dad anyone could have ever had…..Jerry Joyce. Born November 15, 1936, my dad also passed away in November on the 25th, 1986. Even twenty five years later I miss him like it was just yesterday we lost him, his memory and how he loved drag racing and it’s people is what lives in my heart.
That’s one of the reasons I wanted to start the Jerry & Norman ’s LEGENDS of the Farm weekend to honor the memory of my dad and his partner Norman Drouillard, Sr. When my dad passed away, he and Norman had just purchased the Farm. See, they had been renting it since 1976 from Stonestreet and Wilson. These two together started a lot of Farmington traditions we have today. The Big 5 second Shootout, Dollars day race & Flea Market, first weekly drag racing point series in this area and tons of special show, classes and promotions. My favorite was our own track newspaper the Drag City News. This especially was a passion with my dad, wanting to spread the results and coming events that happened at the Farm for its racers and fans.
Again the Farm has gone through its third ownership change it just the last eight years. I think with positive feedback to the new ownership from the racers and fans we may see a return to some of the ways that made Farmington – Farmington . Yes, Times are a whole lot different now than they was some twenty five years ago, but the basics of drag racing still remain the same. Have a happy and save Thanksgiving and remember November.

Farm Host Two Big Points Races May 21 and 22
Again the Lord blessed us with two super days of Farm point’s series racing at the action packed Farmington Dragway. Taking featured wins on Saturday, May 21st, was Frank Aldridge of Focsoe , NC in TOP Eliminator, Tesz Powell of Morganton , NC in Foot Brake, Zachery Pauley of Mocksville , NC in Junior Dragster, Dennis Jefferson, of Mount Airy , NC in Super Street and Luke Eggers of Jefferson, NC in the Farm Teen racers division. Sunday, May 22nd, Robert Benge, Jr. of Mount Airy , NC won TOP Eliminator, Tesz Powell in Foot Brake again, Steff Hyder of Greensboro , NC in Junior Dragsters, Chase Maunel of Winston-Salem , NC in Super Street and Cole Keene of Greensboro , NC in the Farm Teen Racers class.
Frank Aldridge used his son Matt’s Corvette Roadster to take his first Farm TOP Eliminator win of the year defeating Levi Stanley, SR of Greensboro , NC in his ’81 Chevrolet Camaro. These two drag racing veterans waged war all day to meet in the finals of Top Eliminator, but in would be a too hot tranny that would do Levi. SR in off the start. Dialed a 5.88 his Camaro rolled out of the lights, giving the Fire Chief Aldridge the win, as he ran a 5.46 ET on a 5.46 Dial-in at 131 MPH for the “W”. Door Cars ruled…as Todd Wike of Winston-Salem , NC in his new Chevrolet Berretta was the semi-finalist. Fast Freddie Bowden of Walkertown , NC won the special TOP Dash for Cash pole award in his “Hillbilly Hustler’ Pontiac Firebird.
Former Junior Dragster champion Tesz Powell in his Chevrolet Malibu won the hot action in Foot Brake Saturday defeating veteran racer Jeff Flood of Mocksville, NC in his Chevrolet Vega. Powell used a dead on dial in run (6.84 ET on a 6.84 dial) to stop the better reaction effort of Flood, who broke out one thousandths at the stripe. Reigning Farm Foot Brake champion Ernie Humes of Troutman , NC in his AL Mobile Marine and Brokerage Dodge Demon was the semi-finalist. “Lil” Jeff Nicholson of Kernersville , NC laid claim to the number one qualifying position in Foot Brake with his Plymouth Duster.
Davie High School student Zachery Pauley of Mocksville, NC scored his second Farm Junior Dragster win of the season defeating “Burn Out King” Taylor Davis of Thomasville, NC. Davis was a little to early of the start going red and giving Pauley another important Farm point’s race victory. Again Larry Ratley of Thomasville , NC scored another big semi-final finish in his Cottingham Motorsports Junior Dragster. Ashleigh Stafford of Kernersville , NC Robert Vogler, Jr., Kelsey Eggers and Mitchell Harkey all won special awards posted by Garry “Hooter” Hoots, the Williams Brothers and Ronnie Fortner.
Reigning Super Street champion Dennis Jefferson of Mount Airy , NC scored his first Farm Points race win of year defeating Kerri Henry of China Grove , NC . Jefferson in his Oldsmobile used a better reaction time and ran a 10.20 ET at 67 MPH to stop the quicker 7.99 ET at 81 MPH breakout run of Henry in her Chevrolet Nova. Michael “Shane” Williams of Kernersville , NC and Bob Goss of Advance, NC was the semi-finalist.
“Cool Hand” Luke Eggers of Jefferson, NC cooled all the competition again in the Farm Teen racers class picking up his second win of the year. Eggers driving his sisters Mishibishi Eclipse defeated a too quick Justin Stanley of Greensboro , NC in his Stanley Motorsports Chevrolet Truck. Justin had the better reaction time of the start in his Team Ghetto entry but ran a 10.83 ET off a 10.88 dial-in to lose to Eggers lesser breakout 11.54 ET of a 11.55 dial-in run. Nick McDowell of Winston-Salem , NC and Zachery Houser of Lincolnton , NC was the semi-finalist.
The weather was hot and so was the drag racing on the all concrete stripe at the Farm. Taking his second Farm win of the season and his first TOP Eliminator win of the year was Foot Brake racer Robert Benge, JR of Mount Airy , NC in the Benge Masonry Chevrolet Camaro. Benge,a former Farm Motorcycle champion defeated Todd Baker of Taylorsville, NC in his Mountain Lumber sponsored Dragster. Both drivers had great .010 reaction times, but Baker ran too quick going a 4.85 ET off a 4.86 dial-in at 140 MPH to the winning 6.11 ET at 107 MPH charge of Benge, Jr. Howard Adams of Winston-Salem , NC and TimBo Blevins of Jefferson , NC was semi-finalist.
Not since the seven time Foot Brake champion Chris Plott, has anyone won back to back Farmington Dragway point’s race. Well young gun Tesz Powell of Morganton , NC matched him posting another important Farm win Sunday defeating another Foot Brake young gun Tommy Greer of Mocksville , NC . Powell in his beautiful Chevy Malibu laid down a five thou package (6.843 ET on a 6.84 dial-in with a .002 Reaction) on “tiger” Tommy in his dad’s Fat Boy Racing, Beal Racing Engines, Team Ghetto Chevrolet Luv Truck. Kelley Stevens of Hickory , NC and Sherry Crane of Morganton was semi-finalist.
The Junior Dragster finals was a rematch of April 30th’s finals between Steff Hyder and Hannah Blevins. Hyder ran dead on her dial-in (7.94 ET off a 7.94 dial-in) to take her first Farm points race win over “Bubble Gum’ Blevins of Jefferson, NC in her wrblevinsplumbing.com Dragster. Maria Kay Bowie of Statesville , NC in her East Coast Performance Dragster was the semi-finalist. Taking special bonus awards Sunday was Summer Sutherland and Hannah Blevins (twice, she’s good) posted by Garry “Hooter” Hoots, the Williams Brothers and Janice and Derek Harris “Tootsie Roll racing”.
Driving his own street legal Chevrolet Cavalier Chase Manual of Winston-Salem , NC scored his first ever Farm Super Street win defeating veteran Bill Crane of Morganton , NC in his Stock Yard Steaks, Seafood and Country Buffet Chevrolet Malibu. Maunel in his Fastech Racing Chevy ran closer to the dial-in (11.18 ET off an 11.00 dial-in) to better the quicker 7.86 ET of a 7.77 dial-in run of Crane. Kerri Henry of China Grove , NC and Michael Paschal of Pleasant Garden, NC was semi-finalist.
Cole Keene of Greensboro , NC drove his Sexton Racing, Lick Motorsports Honda to a first Farm Teen Racers win Sunday defeating last years number two point’s man Franklin Keen of Connelly Springs , NC in his mom’s Jeep Cherokee. Keen ran off his dial-in in the finals giving back the reaction time advantage he had off the start over second generation racer Cole Keene. Teen Points leader Tia Tutterow of Lewisville , NC was the semi-finalist.
